Oh, this is sad.

Jang Ja-yeon, one of the Boys Before Flowers‘ Jin-Sun-Mi trio of Mean Girls, was found dead in her home on March 7. Her death has been deemed suicide.

The police are still are still looking into the matter, but police have stated that after a first examination of the deceased’s body, there do not appear to be signs of foul play or struggle. Jang’s family does not want an autopsy, so out of respect for their wishes, none will be performed.

ang had hanged herself at her apartment; her older sister found the body on the evening of the 7th. She explains that Jang Ja-yeon had suffered from depression, and prior to her suicide had been staying inside her room for long periods of time more frequently, signaling perhaps that she was falling into deeper depression. About 10 years ago, Jang lost both parents in a car accident when she was in high school, and has lived with her sister ever since.

But to staff from Boys Before Flowers, the 27-year-old actress who played the dimwitted “Sunny” character was “always bright and positive, with a lot of passion for acting. I cannot believe that she would commit suicide.”

Another source from the drama, however, said, “She was lively and passionate, but as a rookie actress, I think she felt a lot of anxiety about her future.”

Jang Ja-yeon debuted in the entertainment industry with a commerical in 2006, and acted in the drama My Lovely Fool and a Drama City production called Love Hunt, Thirty minus three (with Sohn Tae-young and Park Ki-woong).

Jang Ja-yeon is not a famous actress, but it’s particularly shocking (and worrisome) given the drama’s far reach into the youth population. As we saw with the untimely deaths of Choi Jin-shil and Ahn Jae-hwan last year, a spate of suicides followed, and while I don’t want to diminish each passing by calling them copycat acts, it’s unfortunately true that they got tremendous press coverage and seemed for a while to spawn a “trend.” Best wishes to Jang’s family.

It was another setback and a major one for Boys Before Flowers as one of the actresses, Jang Ja Yun (27) who plays Sunny in the drama and makes life difficult for Jandi as part of the JinSunMi trio was found to have committed suicide in her Bundang home today.

According to local police who confirmed the suicide, " Jang Ja Yun was found to have committed suicide in her own home today. She was discovered at around 7.34pm by her sister who then called the police. We are now investigating the case and will give further updates like the reason, her will (if any), etc at a later time." The police also revealed that her approximate time of death was around 4.30pm and that she had hung herself.

Friends who knew Jang Ja Yun was shocked by her suicide and expressed, "She had a passion for acting and loved it very much. She was very much a extrovert and we never really expected that she would commit suicide." Her sudden suicide has plunged the entire Boys Before Flowers into shock with the main cast of Lee Min Ho, Goo Hye Sun, etc unable to believe what they have heard after learning of the news from their respective companies.

Everyone involved with Boys Before Flowers will be paying their respects tomorrow morning at her wake after the morning session ends. According to someone at the filming site now, "We are still filming now (10pm, KST) and it was a big shock to receive this sad news suddenly. Why do all the bad things keep happening to Boys Before Flowers?"

Jang Ja Yun graduated from Chosun University and had made her debut through a Lotte Biscuit commerical and was only starting out with her acting career. She still won a bit of popularity for her small role in Boys Before Flowers despite her late debut. But it's being reported that a dispute with her present management agency and a lack of time in Boys Before Flowers had left her feeling depressed and eventually causing her to choose the wrong path.

She only recently walked the red carpet at the recent 45th Baeksang Awards with the other 2 members of the JinSunMi trio, showing her excellent figure. She was also going to debut on the big screen with 2 upcoming movies and the future looked bright but her sudden suicide has left people feeling pity for her. What could possibly get worse from here on for Boys Before Flowers? Jang Ja Yun joins a lengthening list of Korean celebrities who have committed suicide in recent years. It's just a very sad situation overall.

The young actress currently appearing in the show Boys Before Flowers has been found dead.

Jang Ja-yeon, an actress currently appearing in popular KBS2 drama Boys Before Flowers, was found dead in a Gangnam apartment Saturday afternoon.

It was reported that a close friend discovered her already dead and moved her to hospital at around 4:30.

A friend of Jang Ja-yeon said in an interview with Sports Shinmun, “Recently there’s been a contract problem with her management company and she’s been feeling low about the slipping significance of her role in the drama.”

Jang Ja-yeon debuted in an advert for a cookie company and was playing the role of Seon, one of the trio of “nasty girls” known as Jin-Seon-Yin in Boys Before Flowers.

In memory we leave her with the brilliant song The One about how suicide is never the answer.

This is really sad news to wake up to on a Sunday morning. Boys Before Flowers actress Jang Ja-yeon (27) committed suicide yesterday. You would recognize her in the popular drama as one of the Mean Girls trio (Jin-Sun-Mi) who would tease lead character Geum Jan-di in school.

Jang Ja-yeon had hanged herself at her apartment and was found dead on the evening of 07 March. Her older sister (whom Jang lived with) found the body. Her sister explained that Jang had suffered from depression and prior to her suicide had been staying inside her room for long periods of time more frequently, signaling perhaps that she was falling into deeper depression. About 10 years ago, Jang lost both parents in a car accident when she was in high school, and has lived with her sister ever since.

What could be the cause of her death? Officials have blamed that anonymous Internet slanderers are to blame of the celebrity suicides (most notably Choi Jin-sil) that preceded hers. Could she have gotten too much hate mail to handle when she played one of the mean girls in uber popular Boys Before Flowers?

Celebrity suicides in South Korea -- we hope, is one trend that WILL STOP.

Jang Ja Yun’s Manager Speaks Out About Secret Abuse
March 13, 2009

Recently deceased Boys Over Flowers actress Jang Ja Yun past and possible reasons for her suicide are beginning to surface.

First it was reported that she died of depression and there were even reports saying that her manager stated she was murdered, well, that might be true... to some extent.

It has now been exposed that the up and coming actress was beaten and forced to sleep with the Production Director (PD). Her manager is now revealing the gruesome first hand accounts of the suffering and assaults against her, despite her family not wanting this information to be leaked. Jang Ja Yun hand wrote documents listing her tragedies. Before her death, she asked her manager to expose the person responsible for her attacks. She told him she didn't want her family to think she died of just depression but from something far worse.

The manager has yet to reveal more specifics regarding the documents but he did state the contents to be very shocking and disturbing. He only said so far that there were incidents at room saloons and bars, and being forced to sleep with the PD. Other abuse include being physically beaten with water bottles and receiving threatening text messages. All this abuse took place in the past year and even just week before she committed suicide, she went to the head of her company to ask for help from the harassment. But she was beaten and told to just endure it.

She confessed in her letters that she was forced to do the dirty deeds, because she had no money and was emotionally weak. Jang Ja Yun's manager made a public statement that although exposing her truth to the police and media is going against her family's wishes, he wants to see the person pay / punished for her death.

The manager is cooperating with police to bring the PD in question to justice. Currently, the PD is in Japan.

It's been reported that the manager has tried to commit suicide also after revealing this statement and is currently hospitalized. He tried to commit suicide to avoid any backlash from exposing the truth about Jang Ja Yun.

I have no idea who she is, but that's just awful. I can't believe that so many people would allow that to happen to her. I wonder if this isn't uncommon in her country.
